Glossary
The words this site uses, defined once.
Some of these terms are exact among engineers and a wall to everyone else. Each is defined here in plain words, so nothing on the site depends on knowing the vocabulary first.
A to the point
Every term, in plain words
- Zynaut PathwaysA lifelong record of what a person can do, built from real evidence and owned by the person it describes.
- Talent PassportThe shareable view of a record — one consented picture a person chooses to send, not the product itself.
- CapabilitySomething a person can do, described in the same words a job is described in. Never a score or a level.
- EvidenceSomething that happened and can be pointed to: a piece of work, a result, an observation. Every piece keeps where it came from.
- ClaimA statement about what a person can do, derived from evidence. It can always be traced back, and it changes when the evidence does.
- RecordThe whole set of a person's evidence and claims, held for that person and carried with them for as long as they keep it.
- IssuerWhoever stands behind a piece of evidence — a school, an employer, an examining body, a person who observed the work.
- VerifiedThe issuer behind an entry has confirmed it — a fact about that one entry, never a grade of the person. Unverified evidence still counts, marked as your own word.
- Confidence bandHow strongly a claim is supported by its evidence. It describes the evidence, never the person, and is never added up into one number.
- Consented viewOne filtered picture of a record its owner chose to share with a named recipient, for a stated purpose, for a limited time — and can withdraw.
- Contest routeThe way a person challenges a conclusion the record has reached. Every conclusion has one, and a person, not the system, reads the challenge.
- Re-entryA new goal restarting the five stages against a record that is now larger. The lifecycle is re-entered, not completed.
- CompassThe part of Pathways that shows direction and the one gap that matters most, with the reasoning shown and a person in the advisory role.
- AggregateA view built for an institution or programme from many records at once, made so that no single individual can be picked out of it.
- DeploymentOne branded instance of Pathways run by a school, college, employer or programme, with its own sign-in and its own frameworks.
- White-labelA deployment under an organisation's own name and colours, with the same record and the same rules about who can and cannot see it.
- StandingThe status of an offering, published with its meaning and its basis, so a badge can never imply more maturity than exists.
- Intelligence EngineeringThe discipline Zynaut works in: turning data and knowledge into responsible decisions, action and measurable impact.
